The Mediterranean diet didn’t really start out as a diet. This is in fact a lifestyle. This diet is just the way people living in the Mediterranean eat – think Greece and Southern Italy.
Scientists as of late have picked up on how this region seems to have a very low incidence of chromic diseases, and higher life expectancies. Could their diet be the secret for all these things? Studies have revealed that it is in fact their diet! And so “the Mediterranean diet” was born!
The diet is simple. Lots of olive oil, fish and salads and vegetables make up the bulk of the diet. There is less emphasis on beef and pork. Sweets are also taken in minimal amounts.
Because of the regions topography, the people are forced to eat what is around and abundant. But that doesn’t mean we can’t follow it too.
I suggest giving the Mediterranean diet a go! If it’s worked for the Greeks, it’s bound to work on us!
